What to Bring to the Georgia CDL Test in 2026: Checklist

Georgia has separate preparation requirements for the CDL knowledge-test visit and the skills-test appointment. The easiest way to avoid a wasted trip is to prepare for the exact appointment you have, verify your DDS record and medical status in advance, and use the current DDS checklist rather than a generic 'bring two proofs of address' article.

Before either DDS visit: complete the online form

Complete Georgia DDS's License/ID/Permit form before visiting a Customer Service Center. DDS says the form remains on file for 60 days. If your visit falls outside that window, complete a new form.

For the CDL knowledge tests

• Your valid Georgia driver's license and the identification/residency documents DDS requires for your transaction. Use the current DDS Secure ID/document checklist for your situation rather than relying on a static third-party list.
• Your completed online License/ID/Permit form.
• A current medical/self-certification status if your intended commercial operation requires medical qualification.

Test-day timing rules

• Arrive about 20 minutes early for the road test.
• CDL road tests require an appointment.
• Cancel or reschedule at least 72 hours in advance to avoid forfeiting the non-transferable $50 fee.
• After a failed CDL knowledge or road skills test, DDS requires at least a two-day wait before another attempt.

Your vehicle can stop the test before it starts

The test vehicle must be safe and properly equipped. A registration problem, insurance problem, unsafe condition, or vehicle that does not match the intended CDL class can turn a prepared driver into a reschedule. Final five-minute check before leaving home
