Utah CDL Test Locations 2026: DLD and Third-Party Options
Current Utah CDL testing options for 2026: licensing offices, DLD skills-test sites, statewide third-party testers, vehicle availability, and booking strategy.
Utah has two separate location questions: where to complete the CDL licensing/knowledge-test transaction and where to take the commercial driving skills test. DLD also maintains a third-party tester network, so applicants are not limited to one Salt Lake-area road-test site.
Original CDL and written tests
Schedule an original-CDL appointment with a Utah Driver License Division office that processes CDLs. DLD currently states that Farmington, Logan, and Tooele do not process CDL licensing transactions. The written tests are completed as part of the CDL application process.
DLD CDL skills-test locations
Utah's current CDL skills-test scheduling page lists locations across the state, including Brigham, Ogden, Draper, Taylorsville, Springville, Vernal, Nephi, Richfield, Price, Cedar City, Moab, and Dixie. Availability can change, so use the current DLD scheduler rather than an old static list.
Approved third-party testers
DLD also publishes a statewide CDL third-party tester list. Current listings span Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County, Tooele, Brigham City, Roosevelt, Price, Cedar City, Clearfield, Heber, Provo-area locations, Logan, Blanding, Richfield, and St. George. The list also tells you whether some testers provide tractor-trailer or Class B equipment.
DLD versus third party
- DLD skills testing: published state fee of $78 for two attempts; you must bring your own registered, road-ready vehicle.
- Third-party testing: provider sets the price; vehicle availability depends on the tester.
- Both routes require the CLP to have been held for at least 14 days and applicable ELDT to be complete before the skills test.
How to choose
Compare appointment availability, total fee, distance, and test-vehicle access. A more expensive third-party test can be cheaper overall if it includes the correct truck and avoids weeks of delay; conversely, DLD may be the best option if your school or employer already provides a vehicle.
