CDL Cost in Utah 2026: Verified State Fees and Training Costs
Verified Utah CDL fees for 2026: $52 written-test application, $78 DLD skills test, retake and endorsement fees, plus how to evaluate training and funding costs.
Utah publishes an unusually clear CDL fee schedule. That makes the state portion easy to budget, but it does not make the full CDL process cheap: training tuition, medical exams, third-party testing, and the cost of getting access to the right truck can exceed the licensing fees.
Current Utah CDL fees
- CDL with written knowledge test: $52. This covers the core written tests, with up to two attempts per test before a retake fee is required.
- CDL with DLD driving skills test: $78 for two attempts.
- Retake CDL written knowledge test: $26.
- Retake CDL driving skills test: $52.
- CDL endorsement: $9, including two written-test attempts for that endorsement.
- Additional endorsement-test attempts: $9.
- Rescheduling fee: $25.
- Intrastate medical transaction: $25 where applicable.
Third-party skills-test fees are separate
Utah allows approved CDL third-party testers. DLD does not set one statewide private-test price; the tester decides what to charge. Some listed testers provide a tractor-trailer or Class B vehicle, while others list no vehicle. When comparing prices, ask whether the quoted amount includes truck rental, all three test segments, and a retest.
Training tuition is provider-set
Utah has public college programs as well as private CDL schools. Snow College and Utah State University both publish Class A CDL programs that satisfy ELDT requirements. Tuition and included services can change by term and campus, so use the current program page or written quote rather than an old statewide price range.
Funding can change the real out-of-pocket cost
Utah Department of Workforce Services can fund eligible education and occupational training for qualified participants, but the school and program must meet the applicable workforce requirements. Check the Eligible Training Provider List and get funding approval before assuming WIOA will reimburse a program you already started.
